Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland, and Phoenix (AZ), USA, November 19, 2018 – Kudelski Security, the cybersecurity division of the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) today announced that Jean-Philippe (JP) Aumasson, VP technology, and Nathan Hamiel, director of research, will deliver presentations at Black Hat EUROPE 2018 in London, December 5-6. 
JP Aumasson, VP Technology, will deliver a presentation titled, “Attacking and Defending Blockchains: From Horror Stories to Secure Wallets.” Aumasson’s talk will review recent security failures in blockchain systems, Ethereum smart contract issues, examples of bugs in popular Bitcoin software utilities and how to mitigate risks. Aumasson will also discuss the pros and cons of the different types of bitcoin wallets as well as the risks and benefits of hardware-based wallets for individuals, organizations, and trading platforms. 
Nathan Hamiel, Director Cybersecurity Research, will deliver a presentation on the need for security professionals to adopt a more agile approach to programs in response to a constantly changing business, technology and security landscape. In “Level Up Your Security Mindset,” Hamiel will also talk about the need to move beyond worst-case scenarios and apply the right balance of risk-driven collaboration, innovation and technology to guide security efforts.

About the Experts
Jean-Philippe (JP) Aumasson is a world-renowned expert in cryptography, part-time VP Technology at Kudelski Security, co-founder of Teserakt.io (IoT security), and lead security advisor of Taurus Group (digital asset exchange). JP holds a PhD from EPFL (2009) and has worked for 12 years in applied cryptography, security architecture, and cybersecurity within the Kudelski Group. JP wrote the acclaimed book Serious Cryptography (No Starch Press, 2017) and has designed widely used algorithms such as BLAKE2 and SipHash. He has performed numerous security assessments for leading blockchain and cryptocurrency organizations. JP has spoken about applied cryptography, quantum computing, and platform security at numerous global security conferences, including Black Hat, DEFCON, RSAC, CCC, and Infiltrate.
 
Nathan Hamiel is Director Cybersecurity Research at Kudelski Security. Nathan works in the innovation group defining the future of services and products for the company. A security veteran with a strong focus on software security, he has spent his nearly 20-year career helping customers around the world solve complex security challenges. Nathan has presented his research at numerous global security conferences, including Black Hat, DEF CON, HOPE, ShmooCon, SecTor, and ToorCon, and he is a member of the Black Hat Review Board, where he evaluates research for inclusion in the various conferences Black Hat hosts.

Kudelski Security Announces Plans for Black Hat USA 2018, DEF CON 26

 

Company Hosting New Crypto Challenge and a Series of Debriefs with Security Leaders on Blockchain, IoT at Black Hat

Security Researcher Yolan Romailler and Security Engineer Nils Amiet to Demo Public Key Vulnerabilities Research at DEF CON 26

CHESEAUX-SUR-LAUSANNE, Switzerland, and PHOENIX (AZ), July 19th, 2018 – Kudelski Security, the cybersecurity division within the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S), today announced planned participation at Black Hat USA  and DEFCON in Las Vegas, NV, next month. The company plans to focus on Intelligent Cybersecurity topics and solutions during Black Hat, including a thought leadership dinner on Security Agility; its third annual Black Hat Bash; and two debrief sessions to discuss hot industry topics, engage with security leaders on emerging cyber trends and possible collaboration opportunities, and announce the winners of this year’s Crypto Challenge.

On the heels of Black Hat, security researcher Yolan Romailler and security engineer Nils Amiet will give a presentation titled, “Reaping and Breaking Keys at Scale: When Crypto Meets Big Data.” The presentation will focus on the vulnerability of public keys and potential for data and privacy compromises. Romailler and Amiet built a public key reaping machine, which will be open sourced, and operated it on a global scale to collect and test keys for vulnerabilities. In the presentation, they will demo the machine, discuss the vulnerabilities discovered and the implications of their research. The presentation takes place on Saturday, August 11th at 1:00 pm PT.

  • Crypto Challenge: Kudelski Security launched a new set of crypto challenges for Black Hat 2018. The second annual crypto contest started on July 10th and ends on August 7th at the Kudelski Security Black Hat Bash atop the Mandalay Bay hotel. This year there are three challenges; participants who complete all three can win one of five Ledger Nano S hardware wallets, each with approximately $100 in ETH. Rankings are determined by the time of submission.   • Black Hat Thought Leadership Dinner – “Security Agility: Security at the Pace of Business”: Kudelski Security will bring together senior security leaders to discuss security agility issues. The discussion will be led by Nathan Hamiel, Black Hat Board Member and Kudelski Security’s Director, Research. The dinner will take place on Monday, August 6th from 7:00 – 9:00pm PT at Aureole Restaurant, Mandalay Bay.
  • Third Annual Black Hat Bash: In addition to announcing the winners of the Crypto Challenge, join us and select technology partners for the party will be held on Tuesday, August 7th from 6:00 – 9:00pm PT at the Foundation Room Lounge, Mandalay Bay.
